Whether you are developing an application for a mobile robot, a manipulator or doing quality inspection on an assembly line, your machine needs to see and understand its surroundings. There are several different types of sensors and techniques used to accomplish this task.
In this one-day course you will learn the basics of vision technology. We will cover the physical workings, advantages and disadvantages of multiple commonly used sensor types: lidar, ultrasonic, IR and (depth) camera. A deeper focus is given to the cameras and the methods to process the images. Besides that, we will take a tour through RoboHouse to see the vision technology in use and we will do an introduction to ROS (Robot Operating System) to get a feeling of how these sensors can be implemented in your robot application.

Content

  • What sensors are interesting for robot applications, how do they work and what are the limitations? Learn what sensor to choose for a specific application.
  • What is vision technology, and how is it used effectively?
  • Tour through RoboHouse and experience examples of applications.
  • Hands-on workshop connecting vision technology with ROS.
